ANL: APS-U ARR and Independent Review Team 2023-2024. McCallum-Turner led the formal Accelerator Readiness Review (ARR) for APS-U storage ring commissioning under DOE Order 420.2D. This involved a critical review of the Safety Analysis Document (SAD), Accelerator Safety Envelope (ASE), and demonstration of safety systems, equipment, and procedures for operational readiness. For the Advanced Photon Source Upgrade (APS-U), he led an independent review team providing consultation on project activities and preparations for accelerator and instrument readiness reviews.

BNL:Â Material Handling Program Review 2018. McCallum-Turner led a comprehensive review of the material handling function with the objectives to (1) assess the overall performance, particularly focusing on areas with recent vulnerabilities, (2) analyze the application of work planning and control constructs, and (3) propose programmatic enhancements where appropriate.

BNL: Work Planning and Control Corrective Action Effectiveness Review 2023. McCallumTurner led a review of corrective action effectiveness, which addressed over 40 actions aimed at improving work planning and control across BNL organizations.

LBNL: Independent Readiness Advisory 2024. McCallum-Turner led an Independent Readiness Advisory team to advise the ALS-U team on Accelerator Readiness Reviews for new accumulator and storage rings. They also guide the ALS-U Project Director and ARR team on accelerator safety requirements and best practices.

ORNL: Review of Management System Stewardship and Functionality 2014. McCallumTurner led a review of the execution of expectations associated with stewardship of all 22 ORNL management systems.

ORNL: Independent Technical Review 2018.McCallum-Turner led an independent technical review of ORNL’s high-activity liquid radioactive waste conceptual design. The review evaluated possible alternatives to the proposed design and provided insights on specific management issues related to the conceptual designs.

ORNL: Review of HFIR Restart 2019. McCallum-Turner contributed to a team appointed by the UT-Battelle Board of Directors to conduct an independent assessment of HFIR's operational readiness for restart after the fuel damage incident in November 2018.

ORNL: Organizational Effectiveness Review of the Nuclear Sciences Directorate 2020. McCallum-Turner led a two-phase review of the Nuclear Sciences Directorate at ORNL. The review aimed to assess the organizational effectiveness of SNS and HFIR in accelerator operations, reactor operations, and neutron scattering R&D, ensuring successful project implementation, like new instruments, Proton Power Upgrade (PPU), Second Target Station (STS), and Beryllium (Be) Reflector integration.

ORNL: Independent Review of The Quality of Nuclear Safety Basis Documents 2023. McCallum-Turner directed and contributed to an independent review of safety basis documents for ORNL NNFD and RRD (HFIR) facilities. The review aimed to evaluate the interfaces between operating organizations, safety basis development staff, and DOE-SCOSO Nuclear, and included assistance in identifying opportunities for improvement. The review team also assessed resourcing, organizational effectiveness, and capabilities to meet projected future needs.

ORNL:Â Evaluation of the Implementation of the Activity-Based Work Control (ABWC) Program 2025: McCallum-Turner conducted an evaluation of ORNL's shift to an ABWC methodology, emphasizing proposed strategies for expediting ABWC integration along with identifying related obstacles and risks.

PNNL:Â Cause Analysis of Cyanogen Bromide Release 2016. McCallum-Turner conducted a root cause analysis of an accidental cyanogen bromide release and exposure in a research lab, identifying several causal factors.

PNNL:Â Review of Management & Operations Program Stewardship and Functionality 2024. McCallum-Turner was part of the team that examined the Management & Operations Program Manager role's functionality and effectiveness.

PPPL:Â Cause Analysis of Coil Failure 2017. McCallum-Turner led root cause analysis designed to (1) determine underlying causes of PF1A-U Coil Failure, (2) establish conditions (recommendations) that support prevention of recurrence, and (3) enable PPPL to identify and implement improvements to replacement coils to meet requirements. A series of causal factors was developed.
Applicants for Energy Project Licensees | Site Selection 2001-Present. McCallum-Turner developed the EPRI industry Siting Guide for new nuclear power plants and has conducted twenty-three site selection studies for a dozen electric utilities and eight energy development companies. Ten of these were submitted to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission in formal license applications and were successfully defended in the adjudicatory process, The firm also has conducted siting projects for fossil-fueled power plants, high- and low-level waste facilities, and major transmission lines.
